SCHOOL PICNIC. From Our Own Correspondent. The annual picnic of tho Clydesdale school was liclu on the property of Mr. J. C. Gibbons, Eosina Line. A large and representative crowd of local residents and visitors was present. Proceedings commenced with rounders and numerous other games in which young and old joined heartily. Dinner was served at the conclusion of the games under the trees.

At the conclusion of the sports all adjourned for the presentation of tho prizes. ■ Each child attending school was presented with a book and likewise every other child in the district under school age was treated accordingly. „ The following secured specials: — Best conduct, girls: Betty Aggett (Mrs. P. T. Scott’B specia)l. Boys: Bertie Maxwell (Mrs. P. T. Scott's special). . Most progress: Tom McKenzie, (G. H. Bonnet and Co.’s special). Outside environment, prizes presented by Miss Harris (headteacher) won by Maisie Teague and Anna Hodge. Sewing prize: Ethna Hill. During tho afternoon the children were treated to numerous lolly scrambles, thanks to the generosity of Mr. J. McKelvie. ...

At the conclusion of the prize giving the chairman (Mr. B. R. McKenzie) made a presentation on behalf of the past and present pupils of the school to Mr. and Mrs. J. F. McKelvie, to show in a small measure the thanks and appreciation of tho past and present pupils for the many kindnesses beBtowod upon all tha school children of this district. It was announced also that Messrs G. H. Bennett and Co. had donated a very handsome framed picture to be hung in the new school. The committee is greatly indebted to all helpers and donors of trophies to bring such a year’s working to a fitting conclusion at the annual picnic. Tho following deserve great credit for their help during the day:-- - Messrs C. Cameron and J. Hill, starter and handibapper; Messrs P. R. Teague, J. Powell, S. Armitage and J. Scott who acted as judges, and all who assisted generally. Last but not least, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Gibbons for the use of the grounds and for very, great help and assistance willingly given all day to bring a successful day to a fitting conclusion. The'committee is greatly indebted to Mr.. George Goldfinch for mowing the grass of! the running track thereby improving the ground very considerably. Personal.

We regret to hear the condition of Mr. Dave Short shows little improvement. Mr. Short has been an inmate of Palmerston North hospital for some considerable time. A speedy recovery is anticipated. Mrs. James McTavish is away m town undergoing treatment. Mrs. Cameron senr., is visiting hero and is the guest of Mr. C. C. Cameron. New School. The carpenters are progressing very

favourably with tho erection of tho new Clydesdale public school and the building when finished, will be a decided acquisition to the district. At tho present rate of progress it will not be long before everything is completed,
