MURDEROUS ATTACK ON WIFE WITH RAZOR

Hazel Sly, aged 26, a married women, was murderously attacked with a razor in the street at Five Dock suburb, this afternoon and heT throat gashed from ear to ear. Her assailant ran away from the scene and attempted suicide by cutting his wrists and throat and then plunging into tho Parramatta river but the police brought him out of the water, which was only waist deep. He gavo the name of Frederick Sly and admitted he was the woman’s husband. He was charged with attempting to murder his wife and with attempting to commit suicide. The wife wrote a note saying she had taken a maintenance order out against her husband who was unemployed. Mrs Sly died while awaiting the ambulance.
An eye witness of the tragedy, Charles Debenham, wbo was woricing in his garden, saw the whole thing and pursued the attacker, calling on him to stop and shouting to other pedestrians to block the running man but they were loth to interfere, seeing razor in the fugitive’s hand.
