DANNEVIRKE RACES

Concluding Day

Rouley and Vast Acre Score

The. Dannevirke autumn meeting was concluded yesterday / in weather.' Again the attendance was good,, but the fields in come cases small. The principal events were won by Rowley, and Vast Acre. Speedaway fell while contesting the Novice Stakes, and at an inquiry, the mishap was held to be due to Blue Mist coining in rather sharply, but no one was held blameworthy.

During the, meeting the totalisator handled £26,364, against £21,862 last year.

was uneasy on him drew the whip, without avail, however, as St. Melba beat him,by a head, Tunbridge was a neck away ,third, Prirnax fourth and Streamer and Austerity nexr,. Three furlongs from home Speedaway fell. Eowey Wins.

A very short girice was touched by Royal Lineage in the Hartgill Handicap, but he was well beaten. Tanagra went out and made the pace, leadAg by several lengths to the straight from Royal Lineage and Locarno, with Rowley last. Tanagra compounded at the bottom of the straight and Locarno took charge, but Rowley finished strongly on the outside and won by a neck. High Court was three lengths away, third, and Tanagra fourth.

Warfiile Just Fails,

Both Warfiile and Topere carried strong support in the Tapuata Handicap. Topere ran very badly and Warlike went under in a hard finish, after being well placed all the way. Volplane and Warfiile led the field to the straight, where Warlike took charge, but challenged by Iviriana, went under by half a length. Volplane was only another half a length way and Aurora Borealis was fourth. Warlike had every chance. Topere was very disappointing. Awapuni Hack Scores. Monetize and Deluge, which fought out the finish in the Telephone Hack Handicap, were not as well backed ai •Shortly. Deluge, with topweight, waa made a deal of use of and Monetize was rather lucky to beat him. Delugo led till half-way down the straight, when Monetize dropped on him and won by three-quarters of a length. Merry Mixture was a length and a-half away, third, and Shortly was fourth. Easy for Te Awha. The Kaitoke Juvenile Handicap was a good thing for Te Awha, who went te the front at the start and led throughout to win by two lengths from San Quex, which was three lengths in front of Clay Virginia, with Killogie fourth. Vast Acre’s Double. Vast Acre was more than twice as well backed as anything else in the Glengarry Handicap and she justified the confidence reposed in her. She was always well placed, and when called on in the straight soon hit the front. Dobbin threw out a challenge over the last furlong, but Vast Acre held her lead and won by a neck. Plimmerton, the third horse; was three lengths awf.J and Willow Wai brought up the rear. The places of the first day were thus repeated. The Meeting Ends. The meeting ended with the Makirikiri Handicap, for which Australis and Goodwill were equal favourites, a little better backed than Archcria, Imperial Fame and Goodwill were prominent to the straight, where Goodwill drew out Goodwill had nothing to spare at the finish to win by a head from Archeria with Imperial Fame half a length away Merry Mixture fourth and Australis fifth.

How They Ran

Break o’ Day Again. >' Break o’ Day did an attractive preliminary prior to the Highweight Handicap and was always favonrite on the machine. He went to the front at the Start and led all the way. Asleep and Birkbeck were nearest him at the turn for home but over the final furlong, the Teal challenge came from No'var, However, Break o ’ Day, shaken up, won by a length, while Novar was a length clear of Braeman, while Birkbeck was < fourth and Asleep last. The Novices.

Mothplane was backed down to a very gjiort price in tho Novice Stakes, but again he was beaten into a minor place. St Melba began best and led to the straight from Mothplne. Primax moved up fast across the top and Streamer also was handy at the home turn| Mothplene was in charge less than- a furlong from home but Reed
