AMATEUR ATHLETICS

Increased interest has been added to the annual sports meeting of the Manawatu A. A. and C. Club by the endeavour which is to be made by Stan Lay to better his own Australasian record for Javelin throw made at the N.Z. championships on Saturday last. Also the appearance of Tom Oakley, champion grass track rider of New Zealand, which title he worthily gained at the championship meeting, and of Miss Norma Wilson who, suffering from a severe cold, was unable to retain her title as the premier lady sprinter of New Zealand. Her form at an electric light meeting a week previous was nothing short of sensational, and she is expected to create a record on the local ground. An added attraction will be the appearance of the Manawatu Pipe band, which will parade from the Square at 1.45 p.m.
