DEATH, LIKE BIRTH, IS NEW EXISTENCE

Survival of Personality

BEAUTIFUL FAITH OF FAMOUS SCIENTIST

SIR OLIVER LODGE’S VIEW. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7 p.m, LONDON, Feb. 23. “Tho beautiful faith of the scientist,” is how the attitude of Sir Oliver Lodge towurds the death of his wife is described in a special interview. “Death is not a calamity but an adventure through which all have to go. My endeavour at this moment is to live up to all that I and my dear wife believe. I am absolutely convinced of survival and so was my wife. She was quite ready to go to join our son and daughter on the other side and she looked forward to the meeting. They were also anxious that sho should go. Sho went peacefully, not as a corpse, but as one knowing that death, like birth, is a new existence. “I have no anxiety regarding her. She did not want mourning but a little village funeral and sho talked of it, before her passing. She said slio would like the children to sing on the way from the house to the church. ‘‘She intends to give some evidence to help the beliefs that both of us possess, for she knows the difficulties of people who are unbelieving. It will bo a month or thereabouts before I make an attempt. “If it is any consolation to others, I may say T practice my belief because of my absolute certainty that death is merely a passing over. Sho is now probably resting and recovering. She will become younger, although her spirit was always young.” The bond of affection between Sir Oliver Lodge and his wife throughout their married life of half a century was a wonderful one. The funeral on Saturday will be private.
