CHURCHILL’S BUDGET WON’T BE "POPULAR”
CANNOT SHOW SURPLUS. PRESENT ECONOMICS ABOUT AT BEDROCK. Sun Cable. Received Saturday, 2 a.m. LONDON, Fob. 22. The Daily Mail’s political correspondent- states that indications are there will only be small economies in Mr Churchill's budget, which ho presents in the Commons on April 9. The actual total cannot be far short of that of last year, when it stood at £805,000.000. The Army and Navy estimates show small reductions, and the Air Force figures are described as pretty much as before.
It is estimated that other departments are unlikely to bo lower. Those best able to judge declare Mr Churchill will have no surplus on the year’s working, therefore a “popular” budget can hardly be expected. The utmost that can be anticipated is a rearrangement of taxation, as new taxes are not expected on the eve of a general election.
