A London cable reports the demise of Lord Alierdare of Duffryn, the second Baron. His heir is the Hon. Clarence Napier Bruce. His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral Sir Charles Fcrgusson, is visiting Falmerston North for the annual communication of the Masonic Grand Lodge. Ho is staying at the Grand hotel.

A cable from Brisbane received this morning states that Mr. W. E. Bush, of Auckland, was last night appointed ongincer of the Greater Brisbane council ’s water supply and sewerage department. Mr. C. Wishnowsky of the Locomotive department N.Z.R., who is on hi 3 annual leave, has returned from visiting in the North, and is staying for & few days with his sister, Mrs. E Loamy of Raumai, beforo returning to Wellington.

A London cable Teports the death of Lady Lodge. She shared her husband's (Sir Oliver Lodge) spiritualistic views. Sir Oliver says ho has not made any arrangements for his wife to communicate after she passed over but he is sure to hear from her again, just as ho did from his son, Raymond. Sir Edward Grigg. the Governor ot Kenya, who has been in England fm some weeks, has undergone an operation in London for appondicitis. The operation was successful, and it is hoped that Sir Edward Grigg will be well enough to leave the nursing home and resume his work in about a fortnight. Guests at the Grand include Lord Waleran, Sir George Fowlds and Lady and Miss Fowlds (Auckland), Messrs G. Russell (Wellington), French (Rotorua), Urquhart (Rotorua), CliftonBingham (Christchurch), G. Wallace (Timaru), Thompson (Wellington), Webster, Bagnall, Hallet and Kearsley, all of Auckland. Hon. G. W .Forbes, Minister _ of Lands, arrived at Gisborne last night from Waikaremoana and was accorded a civic reception, tho evening being spent in hearing deputations, many on the- necessity of closer settlement. Mr Forbes leaves this morning for Matawai and after an inpeetion of the Te W'cra block, returns to Gisborne on Saturday evening, proceeding to Napier next day.
