Officials and stewards of the Racing club have every reason to congratulate themselves on the decision to change i the date of the race meeting from : January 22 to the previous week. Although doubts were - entertained in I many quarters of the wisdom of such ! a move the results have amply vindii catcd the authorities in their action. The increase of £1242 in the amount passed through tho totalisator is also supplemented, by the. jnejeaged nominations and acceptance receipts and the gate attendance was also perfectly, satisfactory. The meeting was a success in every way- and - the glorious weather' tended to make everyone happy. Now that tho excitement is over, the town is settling down to business and the drapers preparing fot. their after-season sales, which . ara. keenly looked forward to by the housewives. '
I Another Boat For Foxton Port. > ' A new arrival at the port of Foxton L on Wednesday wa3 the m.v. Kotiti with cargo from- Wellington. For some time 1 there have been no boats arriving at 1 the port, but Messrs Lovin and Co. [ have now arranged for the Kotiti to make regular trips from Wellington.' This little vessel of 69 tons looked very cheery and businesslike as she 1 made her way to sea off Thursday, after ’ discharging her cargo. She is loading tc-day at Wellington for another trip , to Foxton and if sufficient cargo is offering, a regular run will be instituted. r It has now been definitely ascertained that the fire at the residence of Mr Alex Ross on Wednesday evening was not caused by the electrical installation. New Courthouse, The.contractor for the erection of the new courthouse (Mr. T. W. Hunt) has commenced the removal of the existing building to a .site about a chain away from where it • now stands: -Tho old building, which is being shifted practically bodily on rollers ./will have to do duty while the new one is being erected. The records of tho court date back to 1869 and every care is being taken of them in the meantime.,' The new courthouse will face the north-west entrance to the town and a perusal, of the plans indicates, that it will add greatly, to the appearance of. the, principalostreet. Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts left on Thursday for the annual camp at, Ohau, under tho leader-, ship of the Rev. -W. H. Walton and the scoutmastor, Mr. R. S. Warwick. Tho camp will last for one week and given fine weather.,, the outing should prove very beneficial to the campers.
