30,000 Bales Sold
BETTER SORTS CLIPS ....
KEENLY COMPETED FOR
Per Press Association,
NAPIER, Last Night
Taking into account the difference ta conditions, the third Napier wool sale of the season, which was held today, proved more satisfactory than its two predecessors. Taken all round, a slight rise was evident. The offering comprised 30,101 bales 22,055 from Hawke’s Bay and 8136 from Gisborne.
The clip opened up in splendid condition, being well grown and clean, though in odd lots there was a prevalence of seed, owing to the late shearing. The buyers’ bench was fully occupied, all leading centres being represented. Bradford sought for all average to good top-making sorts, as also for hogget wool of good quality, Russia and Germany also were lively competitors. Dominion mills and local fellmongcrs were heard when lots to suit their requirements made an. appearance and they lifted a fair weight of wool. There was keen competition for the better class of wools, lighter weights especially coming in for attention, while average and inferior sorts, though making no advance, were sought after. On the whole, the demand was more evenly distributed than previously. There was a certain reluctance in bidding for pieces and bellies, which declined, except in the best lines. A bright market prevailed for lambs’ wool, which was sustained throughout. A splendid clearance was effected. No official range of prices is available.
