It is understood that the United States army transport service has asked for specifications of the device invented by Mr Ernest Godward, tho New Zealand engineer, for the use of fuel oil equally with petrol as motor power in automobiles. Mr J.. Quooney, vice-president of the Philadelphia street transportation system, announced to a meeting of engineers that the device had been tested upon 40 buses and will bo installed on 580 others and on 3000 taxis. The device, a “gas generator,” eliminated the carbon monoxide exhaust and produces up to 15 per cent increase in the motor’s original horsepower. Mr Quccncy estimated that automobiles could be operated 29 per cent cheaper than with potrol.
