MISS COPPLESTONE’S COOK STRAIT SWIM

Attempt Last Night

CHOPPY SEA WILL BE ENCOUNTERED PARTY VERY CONFIDENT. Per Press Association. PICTON, Last Night. Miss Lily Co-pplcstone and party arrived at Pioton by Tamahiue thi3 evening and will proceed from here at about II p.m. to Cape Koamaru from where Miss Copplcstone will commence her attempt to swim Cook Strait. On the trip across in Tamahine, the sea was more choppy than rough, there being a considerable amount of spray on the crests of the waves but the swimmer exprossod the ’opinion that she could master such a proposition. Dr Kidson, in a weathor report despatched to the party at 4.39 this afternoon stated: “Expect fresh to strong north-west to west winds, moderate to rather rough seas, and some showers.” The party is in excellent spirits and Miss Oopplcstouo is very confident. She said the predictions were even slightly better than, she had expected. Local interest in the event is'keen and while the majority of people with whom the matter was discussed fear that the conditions will be too adverse to be overcome, there are those who think Miss Copplestone’s effort may bo successful. In any case, Pioton pcoplo are unanimous in wishing her the best of luck.
