The freight alterations have been .jsued confidentially to the ship-loading brokers, with the result that shippers con ascertain the rates for their particular goods. Consequently, business is working more smoothly. Among the increases in freights are: Earthenware and glassware 60s to 655, chinawarc 60s to 70s, aeroplanes 55s to 60s, fireclay lamps 50s to 555, holloware 60s to* 70s, wheels and axles 100 s to 110 s, three-ply boards and many kinds of woodware 603 to 655. MELBOURNE, Jan. 15. Tho Victorian Importers’ Association has decided to await replies to the inquiries regarding the shipping freights sent by the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce, to the Australian and New Zealand Merchants’ Association in London before taking further action. Private cables received in Melbourne indicato that ' the proposed increases apply to cargo from Britain to Australia. The only Teply received from London also indicates that the freights are in respect to outward cargo only.
