BROOMS AND MOPS

A point often overlooked by the housewife is the soiled condition of brooms and brushes. These are apt to become so full of dust as to be valueless as cleaners. The mops used for dusting polished floors are usually in similar plight. Where a copper is in use brooms are easily freed from dust by being well shaken in the soapy water. If a copper is not available two tablespoonfuls of laundry soap, well stirred in a pail Of hot water, make a good cleaning lather. Do not have soda in the water as it softens the brush bristles. The brushes should be rinsed under the cold tap, and will be improved by being stood in salted water for a while. After a good shaking they should be dried out of doors or in a draught.
