UNEMPLOYED MAN’S THEFT OF POSTAL NOTES

Per Press Association, CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 15. In the Magistrate’3 Court Thigue John Lagan, a clerk, aged 34 years, pleaded guilty fo the theft of a postal packet containing postal notes to the value of £1 6s and to removing a used stamp from a postal packet with intent to make use of it. The police said that the accused had been going round with a mail contractor when the offences occurred. His counsel said that the accused accompanied tho contractor to fill in tfrno and felt the sudden temptation. Ho was desperately in need, being a married man with a family and was unemployed. On, the first charge the accused was fined £3, in default 14 days, and was ordered to make restitution. On tho second charge he was convicted and discharged
