COOK STRAIT SWIM
MISS COPPLESTONE’S PLANS. Miss Lily Copplestone, who is to attempt the Cook Strait swim, is to arrive from Christchurch by the Wahine on Friday morning. Immediately after breakfast she wiil go over the course in a launch from Wellington provided the weather is favourable. If the Hay is unfavourable, she will leave for Picton by the Tamahinc on Friday afternoon. If she makes the trip by launch she is expected to reach Pieton between 2 p.m. and S'p.m. on Friday, in which case she will immediately go to bed and will bo awakened just before midnight and taken out in the launch to the starting point at Cape Koamaru, a few miles west-of the Brothers Light. Her objective on the North Island will be Ohau Point, near the Makara beach, the distance of the swim being approximately 16 miles. Miss Copplestone, who is an employee of tho Canterbury Fanners’, Co-operative Association, Ashburton, is pressed for time, and hopes to complete tho swim and return to Christchurch by Saturday night’s boat. ' She intends competing at the national swimming championships at Wellington in Fsbruary. If tho weather is unsuitable and the swim has to be postponed, it will probably be deferred till during -or after the New Zealand swimming championships.
