USEFUL HINTS WHEN TOURING

Before making a long trip with a car equipped with an oil filter, make sure that the oil filter cartridge is not plugged with carbon or residue from tho crank ease. When starting your engine, always look at the ammeter and oil gauge, assuring yourself that they arc registering correctly. Watch the pressure in your tyres. It is safer to have a few pounds more pressure than to drive with less than the recommended pressure. A few passengers or sorno extra baggage may cause tyres to sag or bulge and break down the side walls. AVhen an engine is hot, it should be kept running when filling the radiator with water. Pour water in slowly. Keep all loose articles off the floor of the driver’s compartment. They may get under the clutch or brake pedal and cause an accident. Learn from your dealer or service man the location of the fuse box and how to trace a burned-out fuse and replace it. You should also be familiar with the circuit-breaker and any special switch in light or ignition circuits. Battery trouble is often caused by a defective relay that does not open when a motor is stopped, causing a short circuit which runs the battery down.
