SLIMNESS WITHOUT FEARS
"Starvation cures are foolish; antifat drugs are dangerous, and some cases of obesity from glandular derangement respond to no treatment at ’all.” This was tho information which Dr. Dorothy Christian Hare gave to an anxious audience of women at the Institute of Hygiene, London. . "People could regulate their weight,” she said, "if only they would balance the supply of food they take to the demand that, is made on their energies—never eating, in fact, unless they are really hungry, and then avoiding sweets, calces and all starchy food. 'VA woman can satisfy her appetite easily and pleasantly on non-fattening foods, green vegetables and fruit. She can also tako plenty of exercise, and the best kind is walking. For this, shoes with a broad tread and flat heel are essential. "The modern pointed, heeled shoo with its unnatural slant throws tho weight of the body forward on to cramped toes.” "Drink plenty, at least two and ahalf pints, of water a day, hot or cold, with or between meals,” was Dr. Hare’s parting advice. "Smoking does not make you thin.”
