SENIOR CRICKET GAMES RESUMED

Pegden a Century PALMERSTON AND R.S.A. BATSMEN MAKE SCORES Saturday’s ideal cricketing weather saw the commencement of the second round of the Manawatu Association's senior grade competition, R.S.A. meeting Old Boys and High School, opposing Palmerston. Both wickets showed signs of wear as the games progressed. . High School Falls. High School in its match won the toss and elected to bat. The Palmerston bowlers, Gallichan and McVicar, played havoc with the leather, causing a procession which ended with the schoolboys all out for 55. Seven of the wickets fell to catches. M. A. Ongley with 15, was the only batsman to reach double figures. Millar and McVicar opened for Palmerston, but the former was sent back to the stand at nine by a delivery from Spring. McVicar was then associated with Pegden and the pair kept the fieldsmen busy. By the time Pegden was joined by Gallichan on the retirement of McVicar, he was well set and carried on a chancclcss display, surviving Gallichan (54) and Norris (19) to lose his wicket to an l.b.w. decision when, four over the century. Tho batting side at this stage started to disintegrate, Fletcher, the school bowler, accounting for five wickets with eight balls. Ingham (39) and Ongley (10) held their wickets up till stumps were drawn, when Palmerston declared its innings for 298.

R.S.A. Makes a Stand. Old Boys took the field against R.S.A., who commenced unpromisingly, the early batsmen quickly returning to the stand. With the advent of Upham, the numbers began to mount on the board. McDonald dismissed Upham at 37. Rose and Duffield, who carried his bat, treated the bowling with respect and giving no chances, contributed 114 to the total. At 61, Rose took a chance with O’Keefe which Spring accepted. Partnered by Duffield, Tarrant and Bee added 33 and 17 respectively till caught. The last man in, Mansford, held his wicket up for some time to notch six. With an hour to play, W. JUNIOR GRADE. In the junior grade, P. and T., 126, secured a three-point win over All Saints, who batted with eight men, 26. For the winners, McLaren 42, Buckman 21, Huntington 19 and Robb 18 were the best bats, while McLaren 3 for 10 and Farrar, 2 for 13, caused most damage with the leather. Seorgie topped the score for All Saints with nine. Pickering, 3 for 22, was the best trund* ler. Old Boys, 3 for 97, proved too good for Rongotea 94, by seven wickets. The best bats in tho country team were Carlisle 13, Lett 14, Green 13 not out, Amadio 13 and Maden 12. Wright, with 2 for 12, obtained the bowling honours. Johnston 13, Spring 35 not out and Seeker 34 not out, were the chief figures in Old Boys' victory. The Rongotea batsmen found Eglinton, 4 for 13, the most dangerous bowler. The game between B.S.A. and P.W.D. provided an exciting finish, the ex-sol-diers getting home by one run, the final score being E.S.A. 149, PAYJD., 148,
