WOMAN DOCTOR DIES OF BURNS
ACCIDENT WITH CARBOLIC ACID. Por Press Association. GORE, Last Night. A sad accident, resulting in the death of Dr. A. Mathieson, resident lady medical officer of Gore hospital, occurred at that institution at 11.15 o’clock on Saturday morning. Dr. Mathieson was working with carbolic acid, when by some moans the bottle was smashed. The acid splashed over her body and face and immediately began its deadly work. Tbe doctor also suffered severely from shock and in a short while, became unconscious. Dr. Lillie was immediately called in and resuscitation efforts continued for three hours but these were of no avail. Dr. Mathieson slowly sank and death occurred just beforo 2 o’clock in the afternoon.
Dr. Mathieson came to Goro hospital from Dunedin some four or five months ago and had proved herself a very popular and efficient officer.
