Recently a railway porter at Auckland discovered the meanest woman in New Zealand. One morning some weeks ago the porter found a bag lying under a seat in the Limited aftor the passengers had left tho» train. He discovered that it contained £4OO, mostly in sovereigns and half-sovereigns. Some days later the owner of the bag arrived at the Auckland lost-luggage office to claim her property. She calmly walked away w r ith her valuables and has never even thanked the porter for finding them. And only last week a woman who lost £2OO in notes rewarded the Ponaonby tramwayman -who found it by presenting him with a miserable Is 6d.
