FIRES AND TERRIFIC GALES. SHIPS BREAK A DRIFT FROM MOORINGS IN PORT. United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright. SYDNEY, Jan. 5. Sydney yesterday experienced the most trying day for a year. Almost every suburb experienced fires, and at night there was a howling gale reaching a velocity of 63 miles an hour. A man and a boy were killed, and during the storm ships were blown adrift on the harbour. The electric light failed and the Iram services were disorganised.
