COWPER MADONNA SOLD FOR £200,000
WORLD’S RECORD FOR PICTURE. LAST ENGLISH RAPHAEL GOES T£ UNITED STATES. Sun Cable. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. LONDON, Jan. 4. The Daily Mail states that Mr. A. W. Mellon, secretary of the United States Treasury, has purchased at the world’s record price of £200,000, Raphael’s “Cowper Madonna,” for which Sir Josph Duveen paid Lady Dresborough £175,000 last year, thereby taking to America the last privately-owned Raphael in England.
