From Our Own Correspondent. A most successful card' tournament was held in aid of .the Mangarimu school funds on Saturday evening, about 50 players being present. Supper was provided by the ladies.’ committee. Prize-winners were:—Cribbage, Mr D. Humphreys; consolation, Mr G. Kroger. Euchre, Mr D. Harland and Mrs J. Thompson; consolation, Mr. M. Loclcyer and Miss G. Kroger. Karewarewa School Picnic. The annual picnic of Karowurewa school was held on New Year’s Day, and although the weather lias not been very favourable for picnics, it proved quite a success. After lunch, the chairman, Mr Kroger, presented the prizes. Special awards were won by Beryl Sibbin for attendance, May Bielski for highest marks in the school and Thelma Kroger for proficiency. Winners of the sports were as follow.—Ladies’ nail driving, Mi&s B. Stent 1, Mrs J. Bielski 2. Young ladies’ race, Miss G. Carter 1, Miss Deihl 2, Miss Cr. Kroger 3. Young men’s race, It. Krona&t 1. Girls’ race, E Bielski 1, L. Bielski 2. Personal. Miss E. Carey, who spent Christmas with her parents, returned to Wellington on Saturday. Miis M. Kroger has returned to Feilding after spending New Year with her parents. Miss E. Deihl left for New Plymouth on Saturday on a visit to her sister, Mrs V. Corbett. The friends of Mr E. Clifton will bo pleased to hear that he is progressing satisfactorily and will return home at the end of the week.
