ASHBURTON LADY’S COOK STRAIT SWIM
Attempt on January 19 FOUR FISHERMEN TO DIRECT COURSE START FROM SOUTH ISLAND Per Press Association. ASHBURTON, Last Night. Miss Lily Coppleston, of Ashburton, will commence her attempt to swim Cook Strait at two o’clock on tho morning of Saturday, January 19, from Cape Koamaui, at tho head of Queen Charlotte Sound. \ Miss Coppleston will bo accompanied by a launch conveying her mother, Messrs T. Hartigan (her manager), Hartley (owner), Wisse (the helmsman), Whiting (editor of the Marlborough Express) and other newspaper representatives, a wireless operator, two officers of the New Zealand Swimming Council and four fisherman, two from Wellington and two from Picton. The presence of Lhc fishermen will be invaluable, as they know the tides, currents and all the pecuUarites of the crossing. • - ; • ;
