The heavy machiuery now being unloaded and assembled at the Feilding railway yards comprises the roadmaking plant of the British Pavements, Ltd., which has obtained the contract to lay ten miles of bitumen highway in tho Mauawatu. The work is to start almost immediately on the Alt'. StcwariSanson section. Tho rainfall in Feilding for the 12 months ended December 31 totalled 35.42 inches, as against tho average for 20 years of 37.7 inches. Ilain fell qn 15 days during December with a total of 4.87 inches. Fifteen hundred boxes of the Cheltenham Dairy Company’s butter is awaiting shipment at Wanganui, for Halifax, Nova Scotia. The main highway between Taihape and Taumarunui is reported to bo in almost first-class order just now. A motoring party camo through from Taumarunui the other day to Taihape in four hours which included a stop at Baetihi lor afternoon tea. The run from Feilding to Taihapo takes about 2 1 hours so that tho through trip cal now be done in 61 hours. Telegraphic business at the Feilding Post Office during the festive season showed a substantial increase compared with that of 12 months ago. For the 1927 season, 400 telegrams were forwarded while for 1928, 505 wore dispatched. Telegrams received for tho 1927 season numbered 464 and for tho season just passed totalled 587.
