FRESH HONOURS FOR N.Z. PEDIGREE STOCK

ROMNEY RAM GAINS GRAND . CHAMPIONSHIP IN U.S.A,

In July last a small shipment of very select stud Eomncy ram hoggets bred by Mr. J. G. Alexander, of Maxwell, were sold aud shipped to' an American client by Messrs. Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd. The latter firm have just received advice stating that the purchasers were very well pleased with the sheep selected and that they had landed in very good condition. These rams were all of pronounced constitution and 'stood the journey well. After leaving the quarantine station they did particularly well with the result that it was decided to exhibit one of the rams at the Washington State Fair. The result was that this ram was first in his class and was finally awarded the Grand Champion prize. The breeder of this ram has every reason to be gratified with this fresh success. Although only a new breeder he has a stud of very high standard and in founding his flock has purchased only the very best. The foundation ewes for his Eomney stud were secured at the Dispersal Sale of the Bainfleld flock established in Southland by Mr. W. D. Hunt and he had used two high class rams with which he has won numerous Championships. These wore bred by Messrs. Wm. Perry and Son, Penrose. Mastorton, and Quentin Donald, Alloa, Featherston. Tho ram bred by the latter breeder was the siro of tho Grand Champion ram in U.S.A. referred to above. In view of the splendid impression these sheep have made and the success of the first to be exhibited, it is anticipated that other breeders will continue importing Eomneys from New Zealand to North America.
