CENTRAL SCHOOL

MEETING- OF COMMITTEE. Routine business occupied the attention of the Central School committee last night, Mr. Alex. Clark presided, there being also present Messrs B. J. Jacobs, H. Canton, F. S. G. Hubbard, W. H. Cameron, W. R. Mayes and E. G-. Tucker (secretary). Headmaster’s Report.

The headmaster’s report showef that the average attendance was 772 out of an average roll of 850. Miss A. Watson was still in hospital and had. obtained leave of absence till after the Christmas vacation her place being taken by Mrs Ferguson. Miss Edwards was relieving in place of Miss Waters who had departed to take up her nett duties at Shannon, Miss E. Kibblewhite had accepted a position in Dunedin and would depart at the end of the month. On October 29 and 31 Dr. Gunn attended to select children for the health camp. A full complement had accepted the invitation and would leave by the train at 1 o’clock on Thursday afternoon for Turakina. All teachers at the school who sat for examinations recently Were successful. A time-table had been drawn up for th« baths and would bo put into operation as soon as the baths were available. Standard 3 had raised and donated £6 4s 3d towards playing material. Winter Sport,. The girls were successful in winning the inter-school basketball competition. The boys’ football teams were successful in winning the midget competition whilst the senior team were runners-up in the Senior inter-school competition. The .medals presented, by the Kia Toa Football Club to the school for the best senior forward and back were won by G. Langston and ;E. Metcalf respectively. Master E. Fletcher’s medal for the best junior player was won «y W. Gibson. In hockey the' school’s teams were winners', of the Levy trophy, for Palmerston North interschool competition; McLean Shield for the Jlve-a-side competition and , the Feilding Association’s Cup for the sevon-a-side competition held at Feildiug. . General satisfaction was expressed at the Creditable display of the school in the sports’ arena, and it was de-, cided to write conveying these senti- j meats'to the headmaster and the teach i era in charge'of the various sports. I A sum of £5 5/- was voted towards the funds of the health camp. A sub-committee was set up ; to deal with applications for the position of caretaker of the school.
