LADY CANDIDATE’S SEWING MACHINE
MRS YOUNG IN COURT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Mrs M. Young, the Wellington Central Parliamentary candidate, was today the defendant in a civil action brought by the Singer Sewing Machibo Company in respect to a machine sold to defendant on time payment in 1924 and on which £8 10s was alleged to be still due.
The plaintiff company says a machine was bought on terms in 1923 at £23 and was exchanged for one at £37 The defence says the sum was £27. There is a suggestion by the defence that a deposit of £5 was paid by the agent who made the original deal but this is denied emphatically, the agent saying if Mrs Young says that, she would be committing perjury. There is also a suggestion that there was misrepresentation as to the machine being a hemstitching one. Thil is also denied, as a hemstitching afr tachmont was supplied later. The case is part heart!.
