DAIRY COWS IN DEMAND. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. There were smaller entries ail round jcompared with the previous week at Addington markets to-day. Pat cattle wore in short supply and recovered from the t. „ sustained a week ago. Pat sheep averaged about the same prices. Dry store sheep were in better demand but values were unchanged and ewes and lambs were dull of sale. Spring lambs sold at improved rates. The yarding of store sheep was about the same as that of the previous week but there was a larger proportion of good quality sheep. Dry sheep were in keener demand, well-woolled wethers in fair edndition selling readily at late rates and good owe hoggets sold well. Values were: Good half-bred ewe hoggets, 37s 6d to 435; ordinary wether hoggets, 265; well-woolled half-bred wethers, 31s to 33s 6d; shorn wethers, 22s to 255; 4, 6 and 8-tooth three-quartcr-bred ewes to 335, sound-mouth half-bred -ewes, to 25s Cd; soundmouth crossbred owes and lambs, 16s to 19s (all counted). Of spring lambs, the entry totalled 125 and under active, competition, prices showed improvement. Extra good lambs sold to 43s 3d; good, 36s to 39s 6d; medium, 31s to 35s 6d; small, 27s to 30s. / There was a shorter entry in the fat sheep section. The quality of the yarding was. generally good and on the average, prices were about the same as the previous week. The range of prices was: Extra prime, wethers, to 50s 4d; prime wethers, 43s to 47s 6d; prime medium weight, 37s to 425; medium and unfinished, 30s lOd to 355; extra prime ewes, to 42s Id; prime, 36s to 40s; medium, 28s to 355; aged and inferior, 24s lOd to 27s lOd; shorn 17s lOd to 34s 10d; hoggets, 30s lOd to 39s lOd.

Tlioro was a considerable falling off in tlio numbers of fat cattle yarded, file total being 329, against 4SO' the week before and 457 'a fortnight ago. The quality was mixed but on the whole similar to that of the previous yarding. Outside supplies were represented by consignments from the West Coast and North Island'. The northern cattle had boon down for some time and some of them, had been offered at previous sales. The market opened at an advance in prices. Prime steer beef fetchd up to 50s; average 44s 6d to 48s; medium 39s 6d to 435; plain heavy steers, 36s 6d to 41s; prims cow and heifer beef, 44s to , 47s Cd; , medium, 39s Cd to 435, and rough, 'down to 30s per lOOlbs. The range of •prices was: Extra prime steers to £2l 12s 6d; prime £lB lOs to £l9 17s 6d; medium £l6 10s to £18; ordinary £l2 2s Od to £l6; extra, prime heifers, to £l7 2s 6d; prime, £l4 to £l6; ordinary, £7 7s 6d to £l3 10s; extra prime cows, to £l6 2s 6d; prime, £l3 to £l6; medium, £9 10s to £l2 10s; aged and inferior, £6 12s 6d to £9. A small entry of vealers was mostly of poor quality but there wore some good animals among the older sorts. Prices showed an advance on late rates. Twelve. to eighteen months sorts sold to £lO 11s; good vealers, £2 10s to £5 15s; small calves; 20s to £2 15s.

A small yarding of store cattle consisted mainly of cows and there was a good sale for all classes.. Values were good. Cows made to £6 10s; medium cows, £3 10s to £4 15s; aged and inferior, 20s to £2 10s; two year steers, £6 17s; yearling steers, £4 12s Gd; bulls £3 to £6 10s.

There was a medium yarding of dairy cows both as to numbers aud quality. There was a good demand. Values were: Second third and fourth calvers £7 to £ll.los,- heifers, £5 10s to £lO 10s; aged cows, £4 to £6 10s. A small yarding of fat pigs came forward, porkers being rather firmer and baeoners selling at late rates. Values were; Choppers, 30s to £4 6s; light baeoners, £3 7s 6d to £4; heavy baeoners, £4 5s to £4 10s 6d; (average price per lb. Gd to CJd.). Light porkers, Sss to 455; heavy porkers, 47s 6d to 55s Gd; (average price per lb 7d to 74d). There was again a heavy entry of store pigs, resulting in a further fall in prices. Values were: Small wcaners, 5s to 7s; good weauers, 8s to 12s; small stores, 9s to 12s; medium stores, 13s to 15s; largo stores, to 28s.
