The many friends of Mr. M. Hodgins, of Victoria Avenue, will regret to hear that he is at present seriously ill. Mr. and Mrs. H, Aubrey, of Palmerston North, who have been on a six months’ holiday trip to England, have returned to town. Rev. and Mrs. F. A. Crawshaw, of Palmerston North, aro in Christchurch, attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Baptist Union. Sir Harry Lauder, the famous musichall artist, is suffering from a fractured rib sustained while making a film. He has been ordered to make a trip to New Zealand to recuperate. A definite decision to contest the Oamaru seat as the United Party candidate was announced yesterday by Mr. J. A. MacPherson, who represented Oamaru as a Nationalist in the 1922-25 Parliament.—Press Assn. A pleasant little function tof)k. place at the Department of Agriculture's office, Invercargill, on. Saturday last', when Mr A. N. Seamer, who has been transferred to Palmerston North, was, met by all the local officers and presented with a solid leather attache case. Mr Macklcy, in making the presentation, spoke in glowing terms of Mr Seamer’s good work, and wished him every success in his new sphere of duties. Mr Danskin, M.E.C.V.S., endorsed these remarks. Mr Seamer suitably replied, and said ho would long remember the pleasant time he had had at the Invercargill office
