OLD BOYS’ CRICKET CLUB ANNUAL REPORT
The seventh annual report of the Old Boys’ Cricket Club is as follows: — "There is a satisfactory credit balance of £7 16s lOd and this is expected to bo increased before tho now season commences by the collection of outstanding subscriptions which now stand at £6 ss.
The main feature of the season was the loss of the club captain, Mr R. W. Hope, who was transferred to Nelson early in the season and with one or two other defections the team had to be content with tho role of runners-up to tho strong Palmerston North XI, who are congratulated on thoir victory. Paccy and Spring each scored a century, the former beading the batting averages and topping, the aggregates for tho district. Diedorich again proved himself the best, bowler in the district. His six for forty-three against Wanganui in tho Hawke Cup match was an excellent performance, while s gainst Palmerston he was responsible in one innings for the dismissal of every batsman. The Club was well represented in the Manawatu teams.
The junior team performed creditably and finished well up on the cham-
pionship ladder. Several promising players were discovered, notably A. Jamieson, who score-’ the first century in the cd£ip**f?fTon and batted consistently throughout. A. O. Cresswell captained the Junior representative team.
Mr Hope's departure was a severe, blow to the Club and cricket in the dis-’ triet. Prior to leaving he was entertained at a farewell dinner by members and representatives' of otheri sports bodies.
Members are grateful for financial assistance received and thanks are due. to Mr W. Broughton, the groundsman, for practice wickets.
