ENORMOUS INCREASE OF BRITISH MOTOR TRAFFIC
British Official Wireless. ETJGBY, July 25. The rapidly increasing number of motor vehicles on the British roads is shown by the official figures published to-day. Within one year the number increased by 153,000 to 1,909,000. Nearly £20,000,000 was paid in horse power tax in the six months ending May '3l, an increase of nearly £5,000,000- compared with the corresponding period of two years ago. It is announced that Sir Arthur Griffith-Boscawen will be the chairman of thc-Eoyal Commission to inquire into the problems created by the growth of road traffic. The purpose of the commission is to report as to what measures should be adopted for better regulation and control of the existing means of transport and to coordinate their working and development.
