The Argentine naval training ship President Sarmiento arrived at Wellington at 11.15 yesterday morning and was received with a salute from the shore battery at Point Jerningham. Official calls were later paid. Last evening the principal officers were entertained by the Governor-General and there will be a luncheon at Parliamentary Buildings to-day.
An enterprising New Plymouth resident recently heard there was money in supplying the Christchurch market with pungas, so he arranged to cut and send down a supply to Canterbury. The price they brought was 5s each, and the cost turned out to be 5s 6d ; The labour of cutting and transferring to the railway amounted to 2s; transportation accounted for the balance.
