MeDowell. ’ - T- / A special’, committee was’ set up to deal with, all . matters in connection with tho Association’s dance on August ' ’ It’ was resolved that the Otaki Association : ke-yrritf<m to suggesting August 27 as a suitable date for the “B” representative against Manawatm .......... ; . . The challenge of tho Bush Union for the 'Harper Cup was referred to the Foil ding Association., W.E.O.G. Club, applied for the registration of Miss Bentley as a club player, Eosco Club: applied for the registration Of Miss V. Cronin, both applications being granted. ; , Challenge SMeld Donated. The secretary' of the Eahgiotu Hockey, Club .advised that a represen tativo meeting ■ of the residents of Rangiotu and district had met recently to consider the generous offer of Mr. and Mrs Thompson to donate a valuable challenge shield for competition among the country schools in that district. The wish of the donors was that the shield be held, in the first instance, by Eangiotu school and that the challenge games be played on the local ground. As the present season was well advanced probably only a sudden death competition could be played with tho finals, or semi-finals played at Eangiotu. In succeeding years a regular competition* could be inauguratedand the winner decided bn ap points ■basis.- The writer wished 'to know what body would be tho controlling .authority and what were the boundaries of the Manawatu Association's district. Further, information was sought as to whether it would be permissable to conduct a seven-a-side tournament the first year, and an annual championship competition in succeeding years. - ’ “We Should do everything possible

to boost school hockey," said the chair-; man, “there are ten teams included in the suggested itinerary, while we all know that it is from the above teams that our future players are to come." At the same time, Mr. Aitchison pointed out that throe of the ten teams suggested, were in the Feilding Hockey Association’s district, therefore it would be a difficult matter to know just how far the Manawatu . Associations powers extended in the matter. In his opinion, the best way out of tho difficulty was to permit the formation of a Eangiotu and District school girls' hockey sub-association, with power to control the Thompson Shield competition. Other members expressed their appreciation of Mr. Thompson's generous gift, while expressing the opinion that the suggested competition would do a gi eat deal to foster school hockey , in the district. As a result of the discussion the following motion was carried. “That Eangiotu be appointed a sub-associa-tion to control school girls’ hockey, in a district to be.defined for the purposes of the-Thompson Shield Competition. It was also' resblved ’that entries be called for a sudden-death eleven-a-side elimination competition ,for the Thompson Shield, the winner to hold - the trophy for 1928. Further it was decided that in-future years, the competition be conduct'cl on a championship kasis, and that all matters in reference -to the Shield competition be in the hands, of the emergency committee. ■ , . . ’ It was resolved- that , the Saturday competition be declared closed and that Bunnythorpe bo: declared the winner. The position is that Bunnythorpe is in an unassailable position in tho competition at the - present time, with practic- 1 ally all: games played off. ! To replace the Saturday competition it was decided to conduct a sealed handicap tournament from Saturday, July 28". , ' ; . • : ' The 'emergency committee was commissioned to - draw up, and seal .the handicaps by Friday 27 inst.
