PAHIATUA RACE BALL

A RECORD GATHERING. Not easily will the Pahiatua Race Ball of 1928 be forgotten. In tbc memory of those hundreds who thronged . the Drill Hall on Friday, July 20th., it will linger happily as one of the most delightful dance functions it was ever their lot of enjoy. Perhaps never before has there been a Race Ball here qtitc so brilliant, quite so spectacular, yet withal so completely enjoyable. Invariably it is- too much to expect entire satisfaction with every detail concerning a function of so elaborate a nature, but the promoters last evening attained tLc\ seemingly impossible by carrying to its fulfilment, without the faintest hitch, this lavish entertainment to dance lovers. In every respect was the Ball a record gathering, and tho committee has set itself a herculean task if it hopes in the years tq come, to vie with it in its exalted standard ; of excellence. The patronage was enormous and very many miles must have boon- traversed by some in their determination to attend, for there were visitors from as far as Wellington, Hastings, Marten, in addition 't'o Dannevirkc, Palmerston North, Peilding and tho Wairarapa as well as many other localities too numerous to mention. Gay indeed, and sparkling, was the vivacious throng of dancers, the pretty frocks of tho ladies, under the delicate sheen from the lights, making of tho moving scene a blend of beautiful, glittering colour. To the secretaries, Messrs. R. C. Austin and S. Y. Rodney, must go the credit for their meticulous detail organisation and nothing w : as more evident than that they had had the wholehearted assistance of every steward and his wife. That their achievements were crowned with an exalted success every individual will vouchsafe. While one would like to detail the host of charming evening frocks worn by the members of the fair sex, with such a number, the attempt, to do full justice, would be somewhat ambitious. Among the ladies present were Mesdames P. Tulloch, H. McSherry, E. L. Harvey, R. J. Smith, W. McDowell, D. Nelly, S, K. Siddells. S. T. Tiuuey, R. C. Austin, A. MeNeilage, J. D. C. Crewe A.
