TURKISH RAILWAYS BUILT BY DANES
VAST CONSTRUCTION WORKS TO EXTEND TO “BLACK SEA COPENHAGEN. Three- Danish firms have now been engaged for one year oh vast railway construction schemes in Turkey. Tha underetaking comprises the'building of "an. industrial north lino as far as the Black Sea, for tho exploitation of coal and copper mines, passing through this difficult country of the. source of the River Tigris and Euphrates. , A , At present 10(3 engineers are engaged in the preparatory work, half of whom are Danish, the rest' Swedish, Norwegian and Swiss. SoineiJsooD| men .have been employed during the first year assisting in the making of maps of the’ desolate districts, which so far have tempted no survey. ’ During the five years of constructive work upon which the contractors are now embarking, 50,000 men will be employed. Owing ,to natural conditions and the nniuhaßited nature of the country through which tho new railways have to be carried, it- will be necessary to establish quite a small state under Turkish sovereignty, With its own mail service, omnibuses, bakeries, mills, including a small army of 200 picked soldiers for police work.
