WON’T WORK AND OUT OF CONTROL
YOUTH SENT TO BOESTAL. Three yehrs’ detention in the Borstal Institute was the punishment imposed by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in-'the Magistrate ’s Court yesterday, 'upon a: you-a named Wmi T. B. Proctor, ;whq' pleaded guilty to the theft of two shillings’ worth of tobacco, fronj S. J. Barrett, of Poxton. i.v “This boy, who will be 18 years of. age next month, is beyond alb control and won’t work,” stated Senior Detective Qnirko in addressing the Court. “About 7 years ago ho was scut to a Wellington receiving home from which ho ran away. He was tlion transferred to a Wanganui home and again ran away. Next he was committed to the Wcraroa Training Farm from which he absconded several times. Finally ho was sent to another school, being released about 4 years ago,! Since then . employment had been found »for -him but ho wouldn’t work. His father was dead, and his mother an invalid. The lad was quite out of control and it was suggested that a term at the Borstal Institute would enable him to learn , a tradp. hn ddiscipllne,’’ ■ •• His Worship agrteil that a term.,oil Borstal would do’ Procter a lot of good.
