CYCLE ROAD RACE
BOUCHEE CUP SEEIES. The first amateur cycle; road-race-p£ the Boucher Clip scries was run on Saturday under. the auspices of: the Man** watu Amateur Athletic' and, Cycling Club. The distance was 74 miles ant there were seven starters. /Tho result was as follows: G. King (23min.) 1, W. Collins (2rain.) 2, ABaton (2min.) 3., C. Casey (SOsecs) was fourth and put "up- fastest time, 20min. SOsec. Both the winner and’ the second lad were making their first appearance and should do well. , Their respectivt styles-and position arc very good for road -work, and with more experience they will keep the men on the back mark very busy in the future. Con Casey’s time (20min. SOsccs.) was very creditable for so early in the season, and ho should prove a tough nut to crack next Saturday. The officials were as, follows:- Messrs J. A, Gooksley, handicapped and starter; H. W Brown, time-keeper; M. Osborne, secretary. It is proposed to run a race each Saturday to help the lads to get fit for the big races ahead—Palmerston North to Wanganui, on September Ist; Palmerston North to Wellington, on September Bth. , , It is therefore to he hoped that tho cyclists will roll up in force next Saturday and give tho Manawatu officials encouragement in their good work.
