From Our Own Correspondent. The unemployed question at Shannon has been considerably improved by the commencement of the Buckley drainage scheme. The position should be ,further relieved shortly by the commencement of more work at the mills. The weekly euchre, tournament held under the auspices of fhe Women’s Institute was well attended. Mr. Taylor and Mrs. Eadford being the winners.. Consolation prizes were awarded to Mrs Butt and Mr. L, Kiohar ( d-yu. Wednesday last was observed as Arbor Day at the local school; when the senior scholars, under the guidance of the chairman, committee and teachers planted a number of trees, and shrubs.

Mr. J. The annual meeting of the Shannon Dairy Company -will be held; in-the Druids ’ Hall on Saturday, August :11th. at 12.30 p.m, A rough glance at the balance-sheet shows that in spite of the abnormally dry season; tho: factory manufactured 814 tons of butter, an increase of 51 tons over last year; An extra payment of 1 3-8 d per lb. butterfat supplied during the year will bring tho average total payout to Is ,6.38d.' The usual influenza is also prevalent, Tho monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Plunkct i;ooms on Wednesday last. After the ordinary business the evening was devoted ,to community singing, competitions and roll call. The ' competitions wore interesting, the winners being Mrs tVy' lor, Miss Butt and Mrs Osbornfc. An excellent evening was brought to a' close after supper had been enjoyed. ~
