Since the Avondale meeting in April last True Blood has been under a'cloud and tho fact that he has failed to race during the last few months is due to an injury in the knee. The trouble is gradually yielding to treatment, but not , withstanding tho son of Archery still sports a doubtful looking joint. As regards fitness Tru6 Blood is looking .really, well, and it will be pleasing to many sportsmen to see this fine galloper ' leading his field home once again. ; To Mat© .With Hunting‘Song. Eapine’s dam, Pineta, who cost Mr. ■ A. B. Williams 335 guineas at the Kan** , loch dispersal sale in January last, has \ missed, to Paladin, and has been sent " from Hororata to Poverty Bay to be : mated with Hunting Song. Hew Zealand, has nearly recovered, and should shortly be able to resume work. Miss Maher’s Team. The Hawke’s Bay lady trainer, Miss G. Maher, will have a team of six horses to race at Eiccarton next month. They arc Eed Puchsia, Peneus, Grand National, Kalosj and, Indian Chief, all of whom competed at TrcriTsiam last week. Tho sixth member of tho team will be Locarno, an Elysian gelding, rising five years, vrho is engaged in tho Winter Cup. Team of Youngsters. E. S. Bagby arrived in Wanganui last week with a team of eight young horses including throe coming two-year-olds. One of the string is the rising three-year-old Jet Black (by Magpie), which J. Lowe had there last. year. This colt has furnished well, and if appearances go for anything should make a name for himself. Bagby intends taking advantage of the good winter tracks at Wanganui to get, Ms team’ ready for tho early spring meetings. The visiting contingent all look to bo fairly well forward. , A Try-cut To-day. , Solferite won the Winter Cup last August with the minimum' and is engaged next month in the same event with 111 b. more. Prior to Ms victory ho had some racing during the winter, but this season he has not started'since last April, owing to unsoundness. However, ho is among those engaged at the South Canterbury Hunt meeting to-day and if started may give a line as to Ms prospects. , • Pouri for Eiccarton.

Pouri will-.go down for the Grafid National in charge of E. Warner, who will ride him in Ms engagements. WMte Wings Doing Well. Since taking over the control of Ms team as owner-trainer, Mr. W, Scholium, of Auckland, has, made several, additions to/ his stable, with the result that he now has quite a capable lot to represent him during the new season, White Wings is recognised .as the elect of the stable .where classic events are

concerned, and it is expected that she will make her debut in September in the Avondale Guineas. Agrion’s sister is in steady work just now, and looks a picture of health and condition. Providing nothing intervenes she will bo gradually sharpened up so that when required to-accept for early engagements she will be at concert pitch. Eiccarton Training Notes.

Some interesting work was done on the Eiccarton tracks on Thursday, A few of the gallops were — Amor ana Hyperion were on terms at the cud of a mile, run in 1.49. It was a smart effort by Hyperion and if ho jumps correctly nc might go close to winning the Parcora Hunters’ Steeple chase at Washdykc to-day. He lias made great improvement since he entered T. H. Gilictt’s stable.

Paper Boy and Pair Exchange were associated in a spin over five furlongs and they finished on terms. Noteworthy a stable companion of these two, also did five furlongs and hit out very Hoely, Limerick hoped off from the five-fur-long post, and when passing tho threefurlong post he was picked nip by Gay Crest. The pair remained together for the rest of the way. Limerick’s lime for the full journey was 1.4 4-5. 1 Solferite and Eoyal Land were together at the end of four furlongs in 51 3-5 seconds. The former, who is galloping well in his work, will be a runner in the Claremont Handicap at Wash dyke to-day, and the race should help to sharpen him up for iiis more important engagements at Eiccarton. Hoylakc and Bolero finished well at the end of a strongly-run seven furlongs. Over three furlongs less Lady Swinton and Pahautanui shaped well. Mime was not bustled in Ms sprint over five furlongs and to have a lot in reserve at tho end. Eoserea and Arikiwai were associated in a five-furlong spin, which was left behind in 1.6 1-5.' Arikiwai pulled up very lame. ' ■, Zeuxis and Tuahine sprinted three furlongs nicely. Over a furlong further Eapier and Lady Mid finished well clear of Tam Glen. : * The rising two-year-olds Desert Song and Honour (Limond —Homage) Wero sprinted up the straight arid moved pleasingly, especially Honour, who stretched out in fine style. Tarieton and Nincompoop were together at the end of sis furlongs in 1.19. Tarieton was tubed only yesterday afternoon, and for Ms first sprint he did well. - . CMckwheat' led Martarma by three lengths at the end of, six furlongs, in US. The former appeared to bo going very easily at. the end, and it seems only a matter of Ms! learning to jump to win good hurdle races. He will contest the Hadlow Hack Hurdles at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting to-day, accompanying Ms stable-mate Poacher, to that fixture'. r 1 H.B. Hunt Point-tc-Polnt.

The Hawke's Bay’ Hunt Point-to-Poiut Steeplechase will be held on August .11, and not the ISth,.as previously announced. This'popular 1 gathering will bo again hold on the property of JVlessrs. 0. Nelson and G: CottcriU Managapapa, Mangateretcre, kindly len* by these gentlemen. Entries clpse or August Wanganui Point-tc-Point. The following are the entries for th« Egmont-Wanganui* Hunt Club’s Point" to-Point, to be held to-day at Waverley commencing at 1.45 p.m.:— Lightweight Steeplechase; about twr miles and a half; minimum weight list. —Plying Fran, Vitality, Siseyon, Miss Opaku, Black Eel, Shear Blade. Tally Ho Steeplechase; about two miles and a haH;/minimum weight I2st. —Loch Ullin,. Grey Dawn, Excelsior, Lively Fire, Inahtaan, Sea View, Haerentai, PikimaT. V Steeplechase; . about three miles; minimum weight 13st.— Stoker,' Wandcrlight, Wallace, Otauto, Eed Bird.

I. Consolation Steeplechase, for which those competitors, that have not finish j eel first or second in', the other races are eligible, will be,over a distance of about two miles,, the minimum weight being list.* ' ■ . . ,; ( v ( Oh Hastings’ Tracks. ' ; , Some of the gallops put up at Hastings on Thursday morning were— Bendower’ (A. M'Donaldl 'gave a perfect*:' display• over nine of the big fences.; (Mr, Newbigin has engaged M‘Donald to ride the King Boult gelding in his Gisborne engagements, Ballyfarnon (Green) and Crishna (Wairoa), over live,., hurdles, pleased, especially the former who undoubtedly is a fine jumper ;and the makings of a more than useful ’chaser by this time 12 months. • , A Jen (Wairoa) out galloped and out jumped Dapper Boy (Lewis) over five, hurdles. As the latter was lame before sent out, his indifferent showing was not in the least surprising. Dreamy sprinted tialf a mile in 50J a good gallop. Prom the half-mile post to the finishing post the going was far better than around the back. Eoyal Elm and Pale Star in taking 2 minutes for the once round, did, not mislead anyone. On the plough Abisognc beat Plimmerton over five furlongs in 1.4J —a good gallop and the best registered to date by the former. Merry Damon and the Crown Imperial —Miss Eenown gelding, registered 1.6 for five furlongs. There is no mistake that the latter is most promising.’ Merry Damon, since coming to these parts has, in appearance at any" rate, improved considerably. The Hawk and Goshawk continue to do well in their daily tasks and appear anxious to have a go against the watch. Curstey, in the same stable, is not so impressive as the above pair. Huikai and The Mug will not make the Gisborne trip. Dishonoured will be taken to Gisborne to compete in the hack scurrys. At Napier and Hastings last month the Paper Money-Impediment three-year-old showed considerable promise and up the Coast next week-end should show up. Kick Off (Wairoa), in his schooling essay, did not jump as well as he has previously. j

Limerick versus Rampion. Advices to hand from oyemey credit the Eossendalo horse Rampion with training on satisfactorily, and his trainer, P. J. Marsden, has strong hopes of the dual Derby winner being on hand to compote at the approaching spring carnivals. A meeting between Limerick

and Eampioy would be a big attraction at Eandwiek, and it would make the weight-for-age races highly interesting. Eampion defeated Limerick each time tho pair met as three-year-olds, but Limerick has improved greatly since his threc-year-old days, whereas Eampion failed to stand up to Ms work on the threshold of Ms four-year-old career, and on several occasions has had to be thrown out of work because of unsoundness. Oepartions a Success. Shot Silk, who was recently sent to Hastings to be operated on for defective breathing, will not at present undergo same, on account of a weak heart. Pour winners at Wellington, in Pouri, Olympic, Callanmorc, and King Lu, is proof positive of the success of such operations. The three former were operated on by Mr. A. M. Brodio, M.E.C.V.S., of Hastings.
