SITTING IN PEILDING. ; " LICENSING ACT BREACHES. > Cases arising out of an unexpected visit of the police to the Denbigh Hota/, Peilding, resulted in the appearance of the licensee, barman, and three citizens before Mr. J. L. Stout,-S.M., - at ■ the Magistrate’s Court;, yesterday to answer for breaches of the Licensing Act* r • : ( Sergeant Cahill said .that ho visited the hotel after hours and found Benjamin- Monk, Isaac . Dewe, and Eobert Hayward, consuming liquor supplied .by the barman George Carmichael.’ ■ Mr. D. C. Cullinano said that tho three men entered the hotel for a- drink and as the easiest method of getting rid of them Carmichael gave them, a beer-each. . Each of tho three - visitors was fined £2 for being on licensed premises after hours and Carmichael was fined £5 lor, serving liquor when not entitled to do so. I.■ 1 .■ ■..' For disobedience of a maintenance order Edward Guy Hooke was sentenced to 14 days’ imprisonment, warrant to bo suspended upon the, payment of tho arrears forthwith. - .' For two breaches of , his prohibition order John McLeod was fined 20s on each charge. A fine of. £2 and costs was imposed on Albert Hayden for failing, to attend a military camp. . David Colo . for allowing stock to wander was fined £2 and 12s costs.

11. Bardokey was fined 20s and 10s costs for hawking in the Manawatu county without, a license. Defendant, who had licenses for the Waimarino and Rangitikei Counties, said ho was passing through oh his way to Wellington. Inspector Berry gave evidence as to finding defendant hawking. Judgment by Default. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in tho following undefended cases: G. O. Hubncr v. E. P. Enwright £6 15s, costs £1 '.2s 6d; L. Luff v. E. Dv McVicar £6 Bs, costs £1 12s 6d. Judgment Summons. Wallace Evahs was ordered to pay George Watts tho sum of £1 4s 3d within 7 days in default 3 days’ gaol. M. Nesdale is to pay Osmond and Son (N.Z.) Ltd. the sum of £ll 16s in instalments of £1 10s every month in default 10 days’ imprisonment. C. J. Tarrant was ordered to pay Perry’s Ltd. (in liquidation) £3_6s lld in instalments of 10s per month in default 4 days’ imprisonment.
