OUTSTANDING HERD TO BE DISPOSED
Attention of farmers is drawn to the dispersal of Mr. C. Jones ’ select herd of pedigree and grade Jerseys to bo held on his farm at Woodville to-day. Mr., Jones has recently sold his proper-; ;ty, and he is, therefore,, reluctantly forced to sell the whole of his -choice herd of high producing cows. The herd- is a small one, comprising only- 20 high grade Jersey cows, 5 in-calf heifers and’three pedigree females, but it is safe, to say that few herds, in WoodvillCj .or any other district, have coine into greater prominence, not only from the production point of view, but also on Show records, for Mr Jones, during the last few years, has collected ■l6O show tickets, and numerous.'cups,These prizes have been won at Master■ton . Woodville, Bannevirke, Pahiatua and Feilding. The factory returns which can be seen by anyone interested, show that for the past three seasons, this herd has averaged just on 4001 b. fat per cow, and we might add that this exceptionally high . record included heifers. In selecting his herd, Mr Jones left nothing to chance, and pur chased some of the best grade cows offering at that time, with the result
that to-day be has what may be termed aV’star” herd. The two pedigree cows to bo offered .are ‘‘Toot Sweet” and “Lynford Nestor.” “Toot Sweet”.is by “Prince ./James,” out of “Lobelia of Meadow--1 brook,” and has a S.O.E. record of 5701b5. fp.t, and one of her sons heads the herd at present;.. The other cow “Lynford Nester,” by UPrineo James,” out of “Miss Neathead,” aiio Has a S.O.E. record of uoS lbs. fat. She is one of the great Neathead family, well known to every breeder. These animals:are two great foundation cows.
