MANAWATU LADIES DEFEAT OTAKI. The Manawatu ladies’ hockey representative team met Otaki at the Sportsground yesterday afternoon, Manawatu emerging the victors by five goals to two. Both teams played splendidly, though Otaki were certainly not seen at their best. Owing to a regretablc accident on the way up they were deprived of tho services of one of their halves, Miss E. Gardiner, who, incidentally was one of tho team’s best players, and they wore also playing with two emergencies. ’ • The teams were as follows: —

They made a good run down*, field, Miss V., Isaacs receiving the ball ana sending it back again. Play was mostly in 'Otaki’s territory. Ealph, thanked Manawatu, and presented to eacn member of the team a posy of violets from the Otaki ladies as a token of good friendship. The visitors were later entertained with afternoon tea at the Broadway Lounge, when Mr. E. L. C. Aitchison, on behalf of the Manawatu Association, extended a hearty welcome to the Otaki team, mentioning that this sub association df Manawatu was in. every way-,*; help and credit to the parent body. DANNEVIRKE SAVE GAME IN LAST FEW MINUTES MATCH WITH WANGANUI. Per Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, Last Night. A representative men’s hockey match was played to-day under favourable conditions for tho Winter Shield between - Dannevirke (holders) and Wanganui (challengers.) Dannevirke retained possession, the game resulting in a draw, two goals each. Fizard and Thrush scored for Wanganui and Robinson and Smith for Dannevirke, who equalised in the last few seconds of a well-contested game. The standard of play at times was very high. - . The visitors’ stick work was particularly fine, while good goalkeeping. in the first half kept Dannevirke’s score down.
