WAIT FOR THE BRIGADE AFTER GIVING ALARM

TOWN ENMESHED IN NETWORK OF BOXES.

For a town of, its size, PalmerstonNorth is now exceedingly well supplied with street fire-alarm boxes, the 57th. being installed yesterday by Superintendent Barnard and his staff. In conversation with a "Times” reporter the Sxiperintendcnt asked that it should bo impressed ,upon those giving alarms from street boxes, that it is essential that they remain at the box until the brigade arrives in order to give the fire-fighters the definite location of the outbreak. -The loss of valuable time is thus obviated. After all the street boxes only give the brigade a general indication of the whereabouts of fifes. , '

The latest additions to tho street boxes are (those-at the corners of Cuba and George Streets, Cuba and Bryant Streets, Ghelwood and Armstrong Streets, Argylc and Annandalc Avenues, Grey and Bussell Streets, Fitehett and Pirie Streets, Stanley Avenue and Boy Stredt, Florence Avenue and Bussell Street, Bualiino and Fcathorston Streets, Church and Victoria Streets, Church and Macarthur Streets, Colombo and College Streets, Main Street and Botanical Bond, Cook and College Streets, Hereford and Ferguson Streets.

Householders are advised to, .ascer: tain which is the nearest box to their place of residence in case of fire. Time could easily bo lost in looking for an alarm.
