MARRIED IN PRISON
GOVERNOR AS BEST MAN. A curious ceremony took place in Turin, Italy, a few weeks ago, when a prisoner, named Guiseppo Grana, was married before starting his sentence of four years’ imprisonment for theft. Grana was engaged to a shop girl, aged 25, who appeared, neatly dressed, accompanied by two girl friends. Sho had not seen her lover for a whole year, as during that time he was awaiting trial. The Podcsta of Turin, Count Brozzolo personally officiated, and, went to the prison with two clerks from tho Town Hall, who carried the marriage register. The Podcsta put on his "tri-colour sash, as if he wore officiating in 'the Town Hall. Three warders acted as witnesses, and the governor of the prison acted as best man. The bridegroom wan ■allowed to put on a dark suit, instead of the prison garb, and looked well. He simply shook hands With his bride, as if h< had seen her only the evening before. Count Brozzolo made a little speech, suitable to the occasion, wishing both great happiness in their future married life, which is somewhat distant, as the bridegroom still has three years to serve.
