From Our Own Correspondent. Mr. Eric Gunning is away on a visit to Nelson. f Mr. J. V., Burns, who recently sold uis stationery business in Shannon, inends residing in Masterton. Mr, J. Feetham, of the P.W.D. staff, nas received notice of his transfer to the P.W.D., at Kuroro. Mr and Mrs Feetham’ have been residents in Shannon for 16 years, and their departure will be regretted by many friends. Mr. 11. Hook has been elected secretary of the fire brigade, vice Mr. J. V. Burns, resigned. Mr. E. H. Rcinke, of the P.W.D. taff has left for Johnsonville. Mr. J. T. Lawrence, of the P.W.D. staff has left for Paremata. Mr. J. Simpson has left for Napier. The many friends of Mrs B. Cottle will sympathise with her in the loss of her mother who j )asse d away unexpectedly in Newmarket, on Friday last. Football Club. Mr. A. W. Birchail presided over the lortnigutiy meeting of the Shannon Football Club on Friday evening last. Messrs Richards, Coyle, Wilson, Gray and Easton were in attendance. Before commencing proceedings the president (Mr. A. Birchail) said that sinco the last meeting a severe blow had overtaken the club owing to the death of one of their most prominent members Mr. Martin Dalzell. Mr, A. Birchail then moved a vote of condolence with the family -which was carried in silence, all members present standing. Th question of the lights on the Domain was again thoroughly, discussed, but owing to having no reply from the Council regarding the lighting of the Wanganui ground, the matter was held in aueyance. The Horowhcnua Rugby Council wrote regretting thai Wanderers thirds were unable to raise a team to play Shannon thirds as a curtain-raiser to the Maori—Pakeha match. The Manawatu Rugby District Council wrote notifying its intention to refund all entry fees for the third grade teams who kept their engagements in the 7-aside tournament on June 4th. Mr Einhards reported on the Horowhcnua Council meeting with regard to the Miranui ground which has been put in order, and the selection of a referee for the match, for which Mr. T. Parata uas duly appointed. Permission was granted to run a refreshment booth on the ground on the day of the rep. match on June 23rd. The B grade match is to commence at 1.30 p.m. and the A grade at 3 p.m. Mr T. Parata has been appointed referee for the B grade and Mr. R. Sands for tho A grade. Mr. Coyio • congratulated the delegates on the stand they had adopted over the removal of the Shannon player in the junior match versus Foxton. Mr. Richards reported' that no rule books had put in an appearance yet, Mr. Birchail brought up tho fact that no history of th’e club was in existence and ho thought it would be a good idea to write one up. Mr Richards spoke strongly in favour of this; which was put as a motion and carried. It was decided to appoint Messrs Dalzell and Richards a committee to draw it up. On the motion of Mr Grey it was decided to send a remit to tho Horowhcnua Union asking that the rules of the game bo hot altered after tho commencement of tho season, and that rule books bo distributed before the commencement of the season. Rules are being altered regularly and it causes great inconvenience both to players and spectators. Mr. Easton moved a motion of sympathy with the secretary Mr. G. Mitchell and wished him a speedy recovery from his illness. It was decided to hold the next meeting on Juno 15th. Shannon footballers should consider themselves honoured by the fact that of the fifteen members who played against Wanderers on Saturday, thirteen are chosen for the Maori-Pakcha match.
