NAIL AS LOCKJAW CLUE

It was revealed at a Stepney inquest recently on Arthur William Green, aged If, of Limehousc, who died of lockjaw, that the doctor concerned was unable to find a wound by which the boy could have been infected with the germ. Dr. K. L. Guthrie, the coroner, examined the school football boots the boy had worn, and found two projecting nails, one of which under the heel was a Jin. long. Either of these, said the coroner, could have made a small puncture in the foot and allowed the infection to enter. Recording a verdict of misadventure the coroner said he would communicate with the headmaster of the school to warn him of the danger connected with the issue of football boots which were in such a condition
