MEAT RETAILED FROM FREEZING WORKS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —Will you please find space in your largely circulated paper for an answer to Mr. Cobbe. 1 am very pleased Mr. Cobbe has told the public the class of moat sold at tho works, as the advertisement was very misleading re the quality, third class meat, etc. The public thought it was the best and have told me so. 1, as a shareholder and butcher, would like to see the works pay,_ but I fail to sco them pay when meat is given away at this time of tho year, and at the prices quoted. Is Mr. Cobbe studying the interests of shareholders ia retailing the meat when ho says he could dispose of it all in one hour. Think of tho saving in wages and loss in weight when retailing. Will Mr. Cobbe tell me if abattoir fees arc paid on all meat sold for local consumption in this abattoir area? Is it a fact that the company bought stock at tho local salcyards and had it killed at our abattoir and sold in the freezing works shop in competition with tho local butchers? Butchers do not object to supplying shareholders and men employed at the works. But we do object to, unfair competition. Will Mr. Cobbo tell me how many shareholders buy their meat at the works? In conclusion, Mr. Cobbe admits that ho could not buy stock now and sell at tho prices quoted. Why this unfair competition?—l am, etc. I’. J. MANN, Butcher.
