Bainesse

From Our Own Correspondent.

The farewell social to Mr. and Mrs. Pollard anil family was held on Friday, the building being packed to its utmost capacity, the largest assembly here for many years, to say farewell to a very popular family. It is over seven years since they came to reside here, during that time they proved themselves to bo very desirable neighbours ever ready to assist in all social work, sick homes, and many other directions. Evidence of this was proved by the unanimous response to a subscription list circulated with the object of making a presentation, which amount was considerably ..augmented by Mr. Pollard's fellow employees. After the supper interval Mr. Brooke Taylor on behalf of the residents, presented Mr. and Mrs. Pollard with a useful clock suitably engraved, the two hefty sons Bill and Jack with a set of brushes and fountain pen respectively, and in a few remarks spoke of the esteem in which the recipients were held, Mr. Pollard had creditably fulfilled a responsible position in the railway service, he was sure if the records could be seen, Mr. Pollard’s would be very commendable, they were now leaving to takn a wellearned rest and would take with them the best wishes of the people of Baincsse for a very happy future . Mr. Nairn spoke of the happy relations that had always existed during the seven years they had worked with Mr. Pollard, he was pleased to see so many present, there was no one more worthy of this recognition than Mr. and Mrs, Pollard, he would specially mention Mrs. Pollard as he attributed a man’s •fine qualities to his wife’s good influences. Mr. Pollard in reply said he wished to thank them sincerely for giving him and his family such a pleasant surprise together with the beautiful presents, they had spent a very happy time in Baincssc, ■ and would always remember their generosity, he thanked them all for this and for coming this evening especially Mr, Linklater who had come a considerable distance.

In a brief speech Mr. J. Linklater M.P. referred to the railway as a mean? of development in the country, it gave him much pleasure to come to Baincssc, he had recognised Mr. Pollard for some years as a man of tine personality and was pleased to see the people coming forward to show their appreciation in a very practical way. After the company sang "For they are jolly good fellows” thanks were expressed to Messrs. Burling and Jeffries for supplying and providing the music. M.C. ’s were in the capable hands of Messrs. D. Tennant and M. J. Ryan. The evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lane Bvne.”
