FEILDING CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

CLOSER SETTLEMENT DISCUSSED The committee) of the Feiiding Chamber of Commerce met last evening, 'Mr I’. B. Desmond presiding. Also present were Messrs Kilvington, Goldsmith, Jeffs, McCorkindalc, Smith and Fitzpatrick. In view of the fact that Feiiding Borough Council had ’ recently spent £20,000 to improve its water supply and a further £IOOO on the purchase of a new motor fire pump, the chairman suggested that the time was opportune for the Fire Underwriters’ Association to be requested to make a reduction in the tire insurance rate. During the last three years Fcilding’s fire losses totalled £1950, while tha value of the property involved waa estimated at £64,920. Other members agreed that the situation in Feiiding was such that tha risk was considerably lessened and a reduction could bo made without any fear of losses. It was decided to approach the Fire Underwrit|rs as suggested by the chairman. Closer Settlement. During Ihc discussion on the question of the cutting up of some of the larger estates around Feiiding and making thorn available for closer settlement, Mr Smith announced that the 'Westella’ property (Mr E. L. Levin’s) had been offered to the Government and the proposition was now under consideration.

Members considered that this property lent itself for closer settlement and cut up into 40-acro allotments would prove a great benefit to redding.

Other properties in the vicinity of the borough were also referred to,' but it -seas decided not to take any action in view of the fact that the Government wag considering the ‘Westella’ proposition. Again the Limited.

The chairman reported on the result of the deputation to the Minister of Lands regarding the stopping of the ‘Limited ’at Feilding, and it was decided that, a deputation should be arranged to visit Wellington when Mr Sterling took up the position of general manager, to urge Fcilding’s claims ’
